A spark chamber is a device designed to detect the charged particles scattered by cosmic rays in the atmosphere, specifically muons. The design consists of a sealed box containing a stack of evenly spaced conducting plates immersed in a noble gas mixture. There are detectors on the top and bottom of the box that connect to the triggering circuit, which in turn connects to the HV supply. The HV supply connects to alternating plates, so that every other plate is either charged or grounded when the HV is triggered.
